Why Maersk ETAs go stale
Maersk publishes reliable milestone data, which is exactly why checking it by hand is so wasteful. An importer running thirty active Maersk bookings spends the first hour of every week opening the tracking page once per Bill of Lading, reading the arrival date, and typing it back into a spreadsheet that finance and the warehouse both depend on. Nothing about that work requires judgement, but it has to happen often enough that the sheet stays trustworthy.

Maersk Bill of Lading formats
Maersk Bills of Lading appear in a few shapes depending on whether the number came from the booking confirmation, the carrier portal, or your forwarder. Melsun normalizes all of these before lookup, so you do not need to clean the column first.

The shipping line column can read Maersk, Maersk Line, MAEU, Sealand, or APM-Maersk. All four normalize to the same carrier, so mixed labels across a merged sheet are not a problem.

Maersk is one of the carriers where Melsun resolves a full movement history, so the milestone, location, and vessel columns are usually populated rather than blank.
Troubleshooting
- A Maersk row came back as TRACKING UNAVAILABLE
- This usually means the Bill of Lading was not found at the carrier or the lookup was blocked before it completed. Check the number against your booking confirmation first, since a transposed digit is the most common cause. If the number is correct, retry the failed rows — a retry on a completed task does not consume another run from your quota.
- The container was discharged but the row still looks open
- Maersk reports empty-container return as a separate milestone from discharge, so a row can sit at discharged for days before the cycle closes. That is accurate carrier data rather than a stale lookup. You can retry those rows specifically once the empty has been returned.
- Some rows in my sheet were skipped entirely
- Rows are skipped when the Bill of Lading field is empty or fails format validation, or when the shipping line does not normalize to a supported carrier. The status column tells you which case applied, so you can filter on Unsupported carrier or Failed and fix just those rows.
FAQ
- Can Melsun track Maersk Bills of Lading?
- Yes. When your shipping line column maps to Maersk, Shipment Tracking refreshes ETAs for those BL rows and appends the latest milestone, location, and vessel information alongside the date.
- Do I need a Maersk portal login?
- No. You upload your sheet in Melsun and run tracking from your Melsun account. There are no carrier credentials to configure and nothing to connect.
- Will Melsun change my existing spreadsheet columns?
- No. For .xlsx and .csv uploads Melsun loads your original workbook and appends its columns to the right of your existing headers. Your data, ordering, and formatting are preserved, and you download the same file with new columns rather than a rebuilt one.
- How many Maersk BLs can I track at once?
- Up to 100 rows per run, in a file up to 5 MB. Because a run is counted per executed sheet rather than per row, tracking one Maersk BL and tracking a hundred both consume exactly one run.
- Can one sheet mix Maersk with other carriers?
- Yes, and this is the normal case. Melsun reads the shipping line value on each row and routes it to the matching carrier, so a board containing Maersk, MSC, CMA CGM, and ONE rows is processed in a single run.
